Plant Correctly

2. Plant Correctly

Modern packaging brings bare-root plants to us in fine condition. Even so, the smaller roots will be drying. To get the plant off to the best start, soak the roots overnight in a tub of thick, muddy water. This allows the planted roots to stay moist until the first new roots can take hold in the soil.

In planting, spread out the roots naturally in an uncrowded soil excavation. Set the plant at the proper depth for the particular type and species. Leave no air pockets in refilling the planting hole.
